What is mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is a non-invasive technique based on superficial micro-injections, just below the epidermis, into the target tissues. The term “meso” comes from the mesoderm, the middle layer of the skin (about 1 mm deep). It’s a treatment that stimulates the mesoderm to relieve a wide variety of symptoms and conditions.

The injected solution can contain a wide range of minerals, vitamins, amino acids, nucleic acids and coenzymes, tailored to each patient's individual needs. In mesotherapy for hair loss, it is used very successfully in Europe and the United States. It requires no bandage or local anesthesia: after the treatment, you can return to your routine.

Precision with microneedling

At DHI Panamá, mesotherapy is applied with Dermapen, a microneedling device that creates multiple controlled, superficial microchannels. These microchannels make it possible to work directly on areas with weakening or loss of density and support the absorption of the protocol's active ingredients.

As effective as tablets

Today we know that mesotherapy is as effective as, or more effective than, capsules for rejuvenating and restoring hair. It delivers the right compounds to the exact place they’re needed —around the hair follicle— so that:

• The hair follicle can grow and survive again in its original anagen phase.
• Excess DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the main cause of hair loss, is neutralized.
• Blood circulation is stimulated to support hair growth.

How does mesotherapy work?

Mesotherapy uses both physical (mechanical) and chemical stimulation, delivering small doses of different substances to specific areas depending on the condition being treated.

Mechanical: the needles create micro-perforations that trigger a healing process. The body responds by producing collagen and elastin, two of the skin’s basic building blocks; since there’s no real damage to the existing collagen, the new formation adds to the levels already present.

Chemical: the injected active ingredients stimulate the body right where it’s needed —acting like a medicinal projectile aimed directly at the target. The quality and composition of the product, according to the indication being treated, are of the utmost importance.

Active ingredients

Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 and Biochanin A

Mesotherapy for hair loss works as an effective time-release system: it improves circulation, reduces inflammation, neutralizes excess DHT, stimulates collagen and increases follicle size to stop shedding and stimulate growth. Its key ingredients:

Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3: reduces inflammation, stops hair loss and stimulates growth (in studies comparing it with minoxidil). It modulates DHT and stimulates the extracellular matrix and anchoring proteins; its remodeling signal increases follicle size for better anchoring and hair vitality.

Biochanin A: a powerful isoflavone derived from red clover. It modulates the conversion of testosterone into DHT in androgenetic alopecia.

The results of hair mesotherapy are highly effective together with the application of minoxidil.

How is the treatment performed?

Most forms of hair loss are due to hormonal imbalances in and around the follicle, a lack of adequate nutrients and reduced circulation. The treatment, performed by our certified specialist, takes between 10 and 30 minutes depending on the size of the area.

A minimum of 10 sessions is generally required. We recommend starting with an intensive course every 2 weeks during the first 2 to 3 months; the frequency then decreases gradually. Results usually become apparent from 2 to 3 months, and to maintain them, maintenance treatments are performed, generally once every 2 or 3 months.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is hair mesotherapy applied at DHI Panamá?

At DHI Panamá, hair mesotherapy is applied with Dermapen, a microneedling device fitted with microneedles that creates multiple controlled, superficial microchannels in the scalp. These microchannels make it possible to work directly on areas with weakening or loss of density and support the absorption of the selected active ingredients. The treatment is non-surgical, minimally invasive and performed directly on the scalp.

Does hair mesotherapy with Dermapen hurt?

Application with Dermapen produces very small, controlled micro-perforations, so it's generally felt as mild discomfort, a sensation of small pricks or tingling. Tolerance can vary from patient to patient. After the session, slight redness or temporary tenderness may appear, but the patient can usually resume their activities the same day.

How many hair mesotherapy sessions do I need?

It depends on the type of hair loss, the degree of follicle weakening and each patient's goals. A protocol of about 10 sessions may be indicated, starting with an intensive phase every 2 weeks during the first months and continuing with maintenance sessions every 2 or 3 months. The final protocol must be set after the medical assessment, as there is no universal frequency for all patients.

When do results start to show?

Improvement is progressive. Depending on the cause of the loss, the initial condition of the follicle and any associated treatments, the first changes may be seen at around 2 to 3 months. The goal is to progressively improve the quality, thickness and apparent density of the existing hair. Results require continuity and should be evaluated through medical follow-up.

Can hair mesotherapy be combined with minoxidil?

Yes. When medically indicated, the treatment can be part of a protocol combined with topical minoxidil or other therapies for hair loss. Evidence on microneedling combined with minoxidil shows better results in hair density and diameter than using minoxidil alone in patients with androgenetic alopecia.

What benefits does applying mesotherapy with Dermapen have?

Dermapen makes it possible to work evenly, precisely and in a controlled way on the areas that need treatment. Microneedling creates microchannels in the scalp and activates a local repair response, as well as facilitating the delivery of complementary topical treatments. Reviews on microneedling for androgenetic alopecia have reported improvements in hair parameters, especially as part of combination therapies.
