DO: Take Care to Keep Your Scalp Clean and Dry

It is important to know that after your hair transplant. Keep your hair clean from hair gel and other products for at least one-month post procedure to ensure that no complications arise in the follicle growth. After 3 days from your procedure, make sure to gently clean the implanted area with just using the tips of your fingertips to avoid damaging the hair follicles. Do not place your head directly under the showerhead; wash your hair very gently for the first few days so that the healing process is not interrupted.

DON’T: Be in Direct Sunlight

Exposing your treated area to sunlight will damage the newly implanted hair follicles giving you a lesser success rate, and will not help it heal properly. In addition, sweating could increase the risk of an infection developing on your scalp. Avoid the beach, sauna or pool for at least 30 days. Protecting your scalp, in particular, will provide you with a transplant result that you will be satisfied with and keep your hair look very natural and healthy looking.

DON´T: Elevate Your Head at Night

Particularly important for the first 3 nights after the transplant, make sure to sleep face forward towards the ceiling with your back to the bed. This will help to reduce the possibility of excess swelling in your scalp since the anaesthesia and saline solution will be a factor once it starts to come down from the head and dissipate. It will also help to prevent any hair growth disruption by stopping you from rubbing the grafts on your pillows. It is highly recommended that you use some sort of a donut type of pillow used for traveling on airplanes in order to keep the neck in position to help keep you inadvertently from rubbing against the bed or backboard.

DON’T: Smoke Before and After Your Transplant

Smoking before and after your treatment can interrupt the blood flow to the hair follicles and greatly impact how you heal. Blood flow is what promotes the growth of new hair, and not smoking can help you to ensure the healing process goes faster. By smoking after a procedure, you greatly risk your follicle viability success rate by 30%.

DON’T: Exercise Strenuously

You should avoid strenuous activities such as heavy weight lifting or long cardio workouts for 30 days. You can do light cardio 15 days after your procedure such a brisk walking or a light jog, or even a stationary bike etc.
